The Week In Pictures

This is the family monkey. It is gifted to family members each Christmas on my mom's side of the family. The tanning goggles were my dad's idea. He's currently living in our living room (the monkey, not dad). I'm posting these pictures because there was talk at Christmas that we had broken the monkey. He's completely in tact. His future's so bright, he's got to wear shades...

We had a day of snow, and I did take some pictures. Because I have to get up so early for work, you can see a snowy sunrise over our neighborhood. And yes, those are LSU street numbers.

This is my office. I am the main desk right when you walk in. That's quite a change from being hidden in the back corner at my last job. Yes, I know... it's straight out of the late 80's (you should see the bathrooms!). Let's just say we're working on it!

The two pictures below were gifts from my mom for Christmas last year (or maybe the year before). I love them, but never took the time to have them framed. Well, I finally bought frames for them. They were stock frames with those pre-done mats in them. Since my pictures were already matted, I just took out those pre-done mats and voila! I hung them on either side of the fluer de lis plaque that I got at the Home & Garden show a couple of weekends ago. I'm quite happy with it.

The day of all the snow, I was going shopping after work. It had been predetermined the night before and I wasn't going to let a little cold weather and cotton sweater stop me. When T's given his blessing beforehand, you don't give him the option to change his mind! This lamp is part of a matching pair that I bought. Wouldn't you know? Today they went on sale! So I'm going back to get a refund on the difference tomorrow.

Anyway, I LOVE the new lamps. They finally fit the scale of the chests that I bought this summer. I'm quite pleased.

I also took the time on Saturday to hang these plaques back up on the wall. They used to hang vertically over our bed. But when I repainted, I made the decision to put framed photos over the bed (not finished yet, of course). So these have been sitting in the floor ever since. I finally put them on the wall and think they look nice in the entryway to the room. And yes, the ceiling is blue.

Lastly, I made a gumbo today, along with a homemade king cake. Turns out, my sister made a homemade king cake today too. We just used different recipes. It came out pretty good for my first attempt. It certainly isn't pretty and the hole in the center is tiny, but make a round cake out of it was more difficult than I thought.

The hole in my cake was tiny too...I had to spoon the glaze out of the middle so you could see the hole.

Okay, you take take the girl out of King Cake country, but you can't take the King Cake out of the girl! Your cake looks oooooooh, so good! You and Les really need to live in the same city. You would have the greatest business together! The problem would be what to specialize in -- you both do EVERYTHING! Where did you get that talent? Things that make you go....hummmmm!
