Cautious Optimism

Yes, Rufus is giving me a kiss in this picture. And I hope that he'll be able to do the same again sometime soon. As of 6 pm, he is doing better than he was this morning. He's making progress, although not as quickly as the vet would like. But progress is progress and we'll give it to Old Man for hanging in there.

He's not in pain. They are giving him meds for that. Right now they are still flushing his system to get rid of the toxic ammonia. Tomorrow they will redo the blood work to see if some of his low levels have come up and some of his high levels have gone down. And after that, they are going to start him on some liver boosting meds. They will also do some radiographs (fancy word for x-rays) of his chest to see if there is any damage and what is going on. He does have fluid in his abdomen but priority #1 today was rehydration and reversing the liver and kidney failure - or at least starting the process.

He is better because he was reacting to me when I got there. He tried to get up (and couldn't naturally) and he wagged his tail a little, which is really huge from where we were at 5 am today. So I am choosing to be cautiously optimistic.
