No, it's not some large gas guzzling, boxy, all-terrain vehicle. Spring in Oklahoma brings lots of things - wildly fluctuating temperatures, hail, tornadoes and insane wind. I'm not talking about a strong breeze. I'm talking about 30-40 mph sustained winds, with gusts in the 50's.
Yes, you read right. Just as all the leaves are growing back on the trees, the wind comes sweeping down the plains and really moves them around. So if you wake up to a huge hail storm early one morning, there is no need to fret. Later in the day, the weather will be completely different.
With winds blowing in tropical storm fashion, it rattles things around the house. Makes sense, doesn't it? Well, Thursday night, we got to fall asleep to the sound of the gutters on the corner of the house (and right near one of our bedroom windows) vibrating in the wind, causing a loud noise that is a cross between a fog horn and boat motor.
And that my friends, is what I call an Oklahoma Hummer.
(now don't you feel foolish for thinking the title meant something dirty!)

Oklahoma Hummer? I'm pretty sure this out-of-towner named Nicole just made up a new term. :)
That's just called 'a windy day' here. :)
Now for real Oklahoma terms you need to throw in a 'rain-wrapped' or a 'hook echo'...something along those lines. :)
