Why you shouldn't listen to the College World Series at work

I couldn't be in front of a TV for today's elimination game of the College World Series, so I did the next best thing. I pulled up streaming audio of my favorite play by play guy, Jim Hawthorne. So for the last 3 hours, I've been listening to the game while working.

It's not like basketball where you have to hear everything to understand what's going on. You hear the gist of each batter. Well, lo and behold, the Tigers made their way back. Up until this point, my cheers have been mild and just a fist pump here or there. There wasn't too much to cheer wildly for, anyway.

Well, as Dean comes up to bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9, the gentleman that rents an office in our building comes out to tell me about his schedule for the rest of the week. He is slightly hard of hearing and doesn't hear my computer speakers, as they are low and pointing away from him. He proceeds to tell me that he will be out of the office on Thursday and Friday.

My response? A loud cheer as I jump out of my chair, my arms above my head. Turns out, he tells me this right as Dean gets his double, scoring the go ahead runs.

When I look at his face and see the shock, I immediately start laughing and explain to him the situation. He did chuckle like he understood, but I think it scared him a little. He's a theater person, not a sports person. So my devotion to baseball, college baseball at that, is a little puzzling to him.

And I'm sure this is why I shouldn't have been listening at work. But I guess it's better than pretending I had a doctor's appointment and not being here at all!

I was listening after I put bbg in the highchair, and she gave me a big smile as I was yelling in the kitchen. I tried to get a high five out of her afterwards, but she wasn't into it.

I think your reaction to his being out of the office really WASN'T baseball related! I think it was at the thought of not having to hear the continuous beeping when he leaves his tea in the microwave.
