I am thankful this year for my wonderful husband, new daughter, my family, my friends and being happy and healthy.  I wish everyone the same happiness we have experienced this year.

Tomorrow will be spent watching the parade, cooking and enjoying the day.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Still Mad

I'm still mad about the football game yesterday.  I think I'm embarrassed more than anything.  It's one thing to put it all out there and lose.  It's another thing to have a game woefully mismanaged.  Our athletes kept us in the game in spite of our coaching staff.  But the coaches were able to wrestle defeat from the grasp of victory.

There is quite a bit of buzz online today about the game.  This pretty much sums it up for me.   WBRZ had this video about the final seconds.  There is speculation that Miles wasn't calling for a spike but signaling that Toliver was down after the catch.  Even if that IS the case, saying you don't know what's going on with your team, your coaches, your sideline at the end of the game is INEXCUSABLE as a head coach.

So not only is the mismanagement of the final minutes an issue for me, I heard Gary Daniels and Vern Lundquist say something that REALLY bothered me.  They were talking about Patrick Peterson and what a great player he is.  He is definitely one of our standouts.  What bothers me is what they said he told them about Julio Jones and the Alabama game.  Supposedly Peterson said, "He didn't catch anything against me."

It is a true statement, but the complete opposite direction I think this team should be taking.  It couldn't be any farther removed from the "I play for the name on the front of my jersey, not the back" statement made under the Saban regime.  Last time I checked, football is a TEAM sport.  And it doesn't matter that Peterson shut Jones down.  What matters is that Jones did score.. and our TEAM lost.  He scored because our top corner (Peterson) is out with cramps.  Why are players still having cramps in November?  Is conditioning so poor?

To me it's a sign of internal problems that disturb me.  The confusion, the lack of discipline and woeful game mismanagement are problems of the coaching staff.  We have the talent... the question is for how long?  Top kids aren't going to want to play for The Ass in the Hat.

i'm holding a sleeping baby, so this will be brief.  les miles is an idiot!  i've never seen one person so outcoached in my life.  you know, i could coach a game at least that well for a fraction of the price.  i'm so mad i need to take a step back before i write more!

On a roll and it's all uphill

Lots going on in the Smith household this week.  Monday when I posted, Doodle was just barely making it over.  Now every time we turn around, she's freaking out because she's on her tummy and doesn't know what to do.  Last night she started screaming about 4 am.  She never just screams so I jumped up.  She was face down in the middle of her bed moving 100 mph trying to roll back over.  I calmed her down, put her on her back and off to sleep she went.

I decided last week that taking a match to the house is probably not a good idea since I'm sure someone would consider it insurance fraud.  But I can't take all the crap anymore!  So I've started a slow but steady plan to get the house cleaned, decluttered and organized.  It won't happen overnight.  It didn't get messed up overnight (although it feels like it sometimes), so we are going to take our time and do it properly.

I work just 15 minutes a night, but it's making a difference already.  You can get a lot done in 15 minutes.  Who knew?  And it's a much better alternative to renting a bulldozer... I guess.

I'm also starting the Couch-to-5K training program.  It's a 9 week program to get you up off the couch and running a 5K.  Since I am a couch, not just a couch potato, I'm stretching it to 10 weeks and I started just walking this week.  I'll start the official training next week.

And tonight on my walk, I figured out a rather annoying thing.  The only return route to the house is uphill.  Now since I've told everyone, I guess I actually have to follow through and finish.

Finally, stupid Gymboree is having a huge sale.  So I'm resisting the urge to shop until this weekend.  Hopefully the urge will be gone by then.

5 Months

Doodle is 5 months old today.  On Friday, she weighed 16 lbs 13 ozs.  I'm not sure how long she is.  She is working really hard on rolling over.  She's done it once but she's trying to master it completely on her own now.  She gets 3/4ths of the way over and her arm kind of catches her and she's not sure where to go from there.

When she is on her stomach, her legs are moving 100 mph trying to get up underneath her body and push off.  I think once she finally does start moving around, we'll be running after her constantly.

She scoots all over the bed.  I have no idea how she gets in some positions.  But sometimes her head is on the opposite side of the bed from where she started.

She's also discovering her feet.  She kicks constantly (fun for Momma and Daddy) and loves to stick her legs straight up in the air.  And she's just now starting to grab at them.

She's making new sounds all the time and "talks" half of our commute.  She also likes to talk to Bubby (bear) in the bed in the mornings.  And when she's ready for us, she yells.  Not a scream or a cry... just a yell.  Like "hhhheeeeyyyy... I'm reaaaaadddddyyyyy!"  And she yells until she hears the hall light flip on.  Then she's all smiles and quietness by the time we look over the rail.  She gives you that "Who?  Me?  I was being completely quiet, I promise!" smile.

We still don't have our school picture proofs back yet.  I ask at least once a week.  I'm sure they are tired of that, but it doesn't hurry anything along.  The school pics are also her 4 month portraits.  We took our 5 month portraits yesterday and I think we are going to get those back first!  (UPDATE:  We did get the 5 month pics back first and they are now in this post.)

I'll also update our October pictures at some point.  And when I do, I'll, of course, update the link here.  Now I need to finish cleaning the kitchen.  Bottles don't wash themselves!

Chunky Monkey

I took Doodle to the doctor today because she's got a nasty cold.  She's not acting sick but sounds awful.  The verdict - keep doing what we're doing.  But we also weighed her.  The chunky monkey is now 16 lbs 13.6 ozs.  She'll be 5 months old on Monday and I'll have an updated post then (yes, I know I forgot to do a 4 month post).

Enjoy your weekend!

Suburban Mom Crack

Addiction is a terrible thing.  And I have to admit that I have succumbed to a new addiction.  It's something I found through the internet.  And if I'm not careful it will drain my bank account.  What is this new addiction?  It's Gymboree.

If you click on the link, be warned.  It will be very hard to resist the urge to give them all of your money.
