Monday Morning Revelations

I know it's Tuesday but I didn't have a chance to post yesterday.  We had a really LONG weekend.  Caroline has had reflux since she was born but we've been able to manage until now.  She was in so much pain this weekend.  She didn't sleep more than 30 minutes at a time and she didn't want to be anywhere other than my arms.

It's agonizing to know what's wrong and not be able to help.  So I did what I could based on my internet research until we could get to the doctor on Monday. 

After no sleep on Saturday night, I wasn't sure how I was going to get through Sunday.  I was so tired.  Then the best thing in the world happened.  During a quiet moment when she wasn't hurting and screaming, she smiled and laughed at me.  My first instinct was gas, but nothing followed except more smiles and happy sounds.

I can't describe the emotions that followed.  My heart nearly exploded with love and happiness.  I completely forgot how tired I was and somehow managed to get through the rest of the day and night.

First thing yesterday, I called to make her doctor's appointment.  I used a phrase I'm sure I'll use a million more times, but yesterday was a first.  I called and said, "I need to make an appointment for my daughter."  

My daughter?  My daughter!  The lady didn't miss a beat but in my head, I heard with this echoing booming voice, "I'm a MMMMOOOOMMMMMM!"

After I picked my brain off the floor, we spent the day shuffling around town with errands.  We have prescriptions in hand and Caroline is now on baby Zantac.  I noticed a difference already last night.  And she was able to sleep, which means I got to as well.  So today seems like a manageable day. 

I also had my follow up appointment and I'm officially off the blood pressure meds.  I've also been declared healed from childbirth and ready for exercise.  Which is exactly what I want to hear after not sleeping for two days!

Since I'm getting to the end of my maternity leave, there are a couple of projects I'm trying to get done around the house - mainly decluttering.  But the pantry and closets are done, so having a happy baby will make it easy to finish things up!  

Seven weeks ago at right this minute I was staring at my new born daughter with awe.  Seven weeks already?  Where did all that time go?

Say Cheese!

While the baby is napping, I'm actually in the office sitting at the desktop instead of balancing a laptop on my lap and typing with one hand. That gives me the opportunity to upload some photos. Looking back, I didn't take as many pictures as you would have thought I had. But oh well... I was doing other things, right?

Anyway, this first one was our attempt to show off our 4th of July outfit. As you can see, she's freakishly long and not happy with me. We tried it without the pacifier but it went all downhill from there.

I have several really good ones of Caroline and Navarre together. Sometimes Caroline even manages to not look completely freaked out....sometimes!

Navarre spent an afternoon painting while she was here. We found a good use for all the brown paper bags her Auntie had been keeping for no reason other than they are good bags!

Pretty cool evening

I'm just sitting here checking email and catching up on world events - a laptop on one side and The Doodle (Caroline) on the other side.   Pretty cool.... 

And she sleeps...

I have a sleeping 6 week old in my arms.  We had a gassy morning, so it's nice to see her resting so peacefully.  By "we", I mean she.  She had a gassy morning.  

We are finally back from our trip to Baton Rouge, by way of Benton, and unless I'm surprised, all of our summer house guests have come and gone.  Next week is my last week of maternity leave and I have NO IDEA where the summer went.  It's a complete blur!

I have lots of pictures to share, so give me a couple of days to get us unpacked and back on a home routine and I'll get them online.

Hot In... Hot In....

It's been over a hundred now for a week.  It's a dry heat... but 110 is hot no matter how you slice it.  The Falcones have been here since Monday and the poor dogs don't know what to do with themselves.  A new baby is a big adjustment.... then let's add a 2 year old on top of that!  B would rather be outside in the 110 degree heat than inside with screaming toddler and screaming infant.

I have taken some pictures but haven't had a chance to upload anything.  I will definitely get to that soon.... I hope.  Last night was LONG.  Caroline is not fond of weekends.  That is her worst sleep and in turn, our worst nights too. 

We tried to take pictures in Caroline's cute 4th of July outfit.  But since it was on a Saturday, you can just guess her mood.  To add to that barrel of fun, our power went out at 7:30 pm.  It didn't come back on until 2:20 am.  Right as T was getting Caroline quiet, everything powers back up and wakes her up again and she remembered she was mad.  Oh and did I mention that it sounded like we were in a war zone with all the fireworks.  No electricity... screaming babies... sounds of explosions... we could have been in Fallujah.

I can't believe she's over a month old.  I didn't think she had grown any but when I look back at her first pictures, I can tell she has.  She is still freakishly long.  She tends to have T's serious facial expressions.  She's normally pretty content unless she has gas.  However, she has gas a lot.  We are slowly developing a routine.  At least she is now sleeping in her bassinet.  We can normally get pretty good stretches at night.  It normally just doesn't start until 11 pm or so.  About 9, I'm ready for the bed.  But we are doing ok.

We are headed to Baton Rouge this week.  I should have lots of pictures after that.  So we'll see how a 10 hour road trip, broken up into 2 days goes with a one month old and a 2 year old!

It's amazing how much easier the day goes when you're able to sleep, eat and go to the bathroom.
